Easter eggs are always popular in our household in the leadup to Easter. If you're looking for an Easter read for your littlies with an Aussie vibe, then Little Wombat's Easter Surprise, written and illustrated by Charles Fuge, is just gorgeous.
I particularly love Easter books that feature adorable Aussie animals, and this one does just that. Little Wombat is out Easter hunting egg hunting when he sees somebody rushing past; somebody with big ears, bouncy legs and a long bushy tail. Little Wombat is a bit confused - it is Rabbit in disguise? Who can it be?
This is a fun and joyous celebration of friendship, and the ways in which we can be both different and similar to our friends. The story gently encourages young readers to embrace their own achievements and talents, and illuminates the way in which sharing can bring happiness to others.
Mr 5 also loved that this book features Easter egg hunts, sleepovers, and lots of colourful Easter eggs (I mean, what kid wouldn't love this?)
The warm expressive illustrations are so engaging - full of vibrant colour and beautifully depicting our unique Australian animals and surrounding bushland. Just look at that gorgeous cover!
This book is just magical, with a real classic feel about it, and I suspect it will be enjoyed in our household for a while to come.
